Communication discipline

Use the smallest channel that can carry the message.

Remote technical work becomes noisy when every update is treated as urgent. The basecamp uses three communication levels. A log entry records information that can wait. A camp signal requests attention during the next coordination window. An emergency call interrupts protected work because safety, data, or critical operations are at immediate risk.

Connectivity loss during repository synchronization

14:08 The primary uplink stopped responding while two workstations were fetching large dependency archives. Local wireless remained available.

System design note

A status display should create confidence, not another object of anxiety.

Many dashboards fail because they present every available measurement without explaining which conditions require action. A basecamp display should remain quiet when systems are healthy. It should use clear language, show the source and age of information, and distinguish degraded service from complete failure. Operators need to know what still works, what has changed, and what response is expected.

The same principle applies to human status. Team members should not be reduced to colored availability indicators. A person may be working privately, walking, resting, or temporarily unreachable without creating an operational problem. The system coordinates shared dependencies while leaving individual attention alone.
